How your age is calculated
- Years and months: the full birthdays and full months completed by the reference date.
- Days: the days since your last full month.
- Days alive: the exact number of days between the two dates, leap days included.
- Next birthday: the date of your next birthday, how many days away it is and the age you'll turn.
Want to know how old someone was on a past date, or will be on a future one? Change the second date, which defaults to today.
Leap years and month-end birthdays
A year is a leap year if it's divisible by 4, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 wasn't.
If a month doesn't have your birth day, its last day counts instead. Someone born on January 31 completes their first month on February 28 (or 29 in a leap year), and their third month on April 30.
If you were born on February 29, this calculator uses February 28 as your birthday in non-leap years. Some laws use March 1 instead, so check if you need the date for a legal purpose.

- Total: 36 × 12 + 5 = 437 months; 13,309 ÷ 7 = 1,901 weeks with 2 days left over
Common mistakes
- Subtracting birth year from the current year without checking whether this year's birthday has happened yet.
- Treating every year as 365 days when counting days alive. Leap days add up: about one extra day every four years.
- Assuming every month has 30 days when counting the leftover months and days.
